Which antiviral to choose?

The choice of antiviral depends on multiple factors. Always consult with a vet experienced in FIP.

GS-441524

Most used

The gold standard for FIP treatment. It inhibits the viral RNA polymerase, blocking the mutated coronavirus's ability to replicate inside cells. Available in oral and injectable form, with a standard dose of approximately 4 mg/kg daily. Published cure rates exceed 92%.

Molnupiravir

Oral only

Uses a different mechanism — it induces errors in viral RNA replication until the virus can no longer function. It has shown efficacy in FIP cases including neurological and ocular forms, and is increasingly used particularly where access to GS-441524 is limited.

Dual therapy

Complex cases

In severe cases, especially neurological FIP, the antiviral may be combined with an immunomodulator such as prednisolone or feline interferon omega. The goal is to reduce inflammatory response while the antiviral targets the virus. This combination requires careful veterinary supervision.
